description

LXD versions before 0.0.0-20260630083100-c5184be310b1 may pass unvalidated extra options from backup compression settings to a host-side compression utility. An authenticated user permitted to create backups and control that setting could write files on the host and potentially execute commands.

mitigation

Upgrade github.com/canonical/lxd to 0.0.0-20260630083100-c5184be310b1 or later. Until upgraded, restrict backup creation and access to backup compression settings to trusted administrators.
