ETK-2026-3183Zero's internal tracking ID, independent of the CVE number.
validatedZero produced an exploit or a check.description
OpenEXR before 3.3.15, 3.4.17, and 3.5.3 can incorrectly process auxiliary channel-list attributes in crafted EXR files. An attacker able to supply an EXR file for processing may cause an affected application to write beyond an allocated buffer, potentially crashing it; a separate reader path can return pixel values influenced by uninitialized memory. The application must read attacker-controlled EXR content.
mitigation
Upgrade OpenEXR to 3.3.15, 3.4.17, 3.5.3 or later.
fixed in 3.3.15, 3.4.17, 3.5.3
outcome
Contextual check: a technique exists and was validated, but no deterministic check could cover this one.
