description

libheif versions before 1.23.7 can consume excessive CPU while decoding crafted HEIF images that repeatedly trigger decoding of large image content. An attacker needs to supply a malicious HEIF file to an application or service that decodes untrusted HEIF input, potentially delaying or exhausting available CPU resources.

mitigation

Upgrade libheif to version 1.23.7 or later. Until upgrades are complete, restrict or isolate processing of untrusted HEIF files and apply resource limits to decoding workloads.

fixed in 1.23.7
