description

Next.js applications using the App Router and Cache Components are affected when a use cache function returns multiple typed arrays. An unauthenticated attacker may be able to execute code remotely if that application pattern is present.

mitigation

Upgrade the npm next package to version 16.4.1 immediately. No configuration workaround is identified for applications with the affected cache functions.

fixed in 16.4.1

outcome

Mechanism verified: the exploit fired on the vulnerable build and stayed silent on the patched one, but the server it ran against was ours, so no check ships for it.

source signals

Public signals that triggered or updated the pipeline. These are inputs for the deltas above.
