description

OpenTelemetry Operator versions before 0.152.0 may create cluster-scoped read permissions for collector service accounts without verifying that the user creating the collector is entitled to those permissions. A user able to create OpenTelemetryCollector resources can gain broad visibility into cluster resources when automatic RBAC creation is enabled.

mitigation

Upgrade OpenTelemetry Operator to version 0.152.0 or later. Until upgraded, prevent the operator service account from creating ClusterRoles and ClusterRoleBindings to disable automatic RBAC creation.

fixed in 0.152.0
