description

filex versions through 0.53.0 mishandle authorization for changes to key files in end-to-end encrypted folders and encrypted files. An account or API token with write access to an affected encrypted folder can cause prior server-side key-file versions to be removed, potentially preventing recovery of its encrypted contents; such access can also enable certain unversioned conversion overwrites.

mitigation

Upgrade filex/backend to version 0.54.0. Until upgraded, restrict write access and write-scoped API tokens for encrypted folders, and maintain recoverable backups or synchronized copies of their key files.

fixed in 0.54.0
