description

Linux kernels with affected ksmbd code can return residual buffer data in filesystem-control information responses. A remote SMB client may obtain limited unintended data disclosure when it can send a compound request to an exposed ksmbd service.

Still under analysis: more detail becomes available as the pipeline runs.

mitigation

Update to a Linux kernel incorporating the applicable fix commit: d8c450ad0d08980b39b08d435efa921086c8b227, 03bb4338c3a7c3fc4decf699a35753f0891aab2a, or c0cd3fc6824122014da2b3b0cb7ddeaa2946ec8e. Until updated, disable ksmbd or restrict SMB access to trusted clients and networks.
