description

Linux kernels running the ksmbd SMB server can incorrectly handle SMB2 session lifetime during SessionSetup exchanges. A remote client can trigger resource consumption through abandoned setup sessions, while additional authenticated session setup can disrupt existing SMB connections; exposure requires ksmbd to be enabled and reachable.

mitigation

Update to a kernel release containing the fix; the advisory lists fixed versions 5.16, 6.2, 6.3, and 6.4. Until updates are deployed, disable ksmbd where it is not required or limit SMB access to trusted clients.

outcome

Contextual: an exploit technique exists, but no deterministic check could cover this one.
