description

Docker Engine releases before 29.8.2 and the moby Go module before v2.0.0-beta.25 incorrectly classify certain registry hostnames as insecure based on DNS results. An attacker able to influence a registry hostname's DNS answers could cause the daemon to connect without normal certificate verification, exposing registry credentials or allowing replacement of images referenced by mutable tags.

mitigation

Upgrade Docker Engine to v29.8.2 or later, and update github.com/moby/moby/v2 to v2.0.0-beta.25 or later where applicable. Until upgraded, pin registry names to trusted non-loopback addresses through trusted DNS or hosts entries and restrict daemon egress to approved registry endpoints.

fixed in v2.0.0-beta.25, 29.8.2
