description

Hickory DNS versions 0.18 through 0.26.1 allocate memory based on untrusted DNS record-count fields. A remote attacker can send a crafted UDP DNS message, or a spoofed response to a client or resolver, to consume substantial memory and potentially cause denial of service. Exploitation requires the affected parser to process the attacker-controlled message.

mitigation

Upgrade hickory-dns to version 0.26.2 or later. Until upgraded, restrict exposure to untrusted DNS traffic and limit acceptance of spoofed responses where possible.

fixed in 0.26.2
