description

Active Storage installations that process attachments with ImageMagick may permit unintended server-side file reads or writes. An attacker must be able to cause a file attachment to be processed by the ImageMagick analyzer; exposure depends on the absence of a restrictive ImageMagick security policy.

mitigation

Upgrade Active Storage to 8.0.5.2 on the 8.0 line or 8.1.4.1 on the 8.1 line. Restrict ImageMagick operations with an appropriate security policy where attachment processing is enabled.

fixed in 8.1.4.1, 8.0.5.2

outcome

Contextual check: a technique exists and was validated, but no deterministic check could cover this one.
