description

Easy Digital Downloads for WordPress versions 3.7.2 and earlier can incorrectly authenticate a checkout user as an existing WordPress account. An unauthenticated attacker may take over an administrator account by completing a PayPal-related checkout using that administrator's email address, provided the administrator does not already have an Easy Digital Downloads customer record.

mitigation

Update from version 3.7.2 or earlier to a later vendor release that confirms the fix; the evidence does not identify the first fixed version. Until updating, disable PayPal-related checkout paths and guest checkout where operationally feasible.
