description

flat through 6.0.1 can create excessively large sparse arrays when unflatten() processes untrusted flattened data with unbounded numeric path components. An attacker may cause a Node.js application to become unresponsive if they can supply such input to unflatten() and the resulting array is processed.

mitigation

Do not pass untrusted flattened data directly to unflatten(); reject or bound numeric path components before processing. Until a corrected release is available, enforce input-size and request-processing limits around code paths that use unflatten().
