description

Pillow versions 9.2.0 through versions before 13.0.0 can retain invalid GIF frame dimensions after decompression-bomb protection rejects a frame. A crafted GIF may then consume excessive memory and disrupt service if the application catches that exception and reuses the same image object.

mitigation

Upgrade Pillow to version 13.0.0 or later. Until upgraded, discard the image object after a decompression-bomb exception rather than continuing to seek or load it.

fixed in 13.0.0
