description

Plack-Middleware-ETag versions 0.04 through before 0.06 can include file inode numbers in ETag headers. A client can use this metadata to fingerprint the backend or correlate files across URLs when the application serves filehandle responses and file_etag is not configured.

mitigation

Upgrade Plack-Middleware-ETag to version 0.06 or later. Until upgraded, configure file_etag explicitly for filehandle responses to avoid the default ETag construction.

fixed in 0.06

outcome

Contextual check: a technique exists and was validated, but no deterministic check could cover this one.
