description

The Python thumbnail package through version 1.5 is affected by OS command injection in generate_thumbnail(). An attacker who can supply a filename or path processed by that function may run commands with the application's Python-process privileges.

mitigation

Do not pass attacker-controlled filenames or paths to generate_thumbnail(), and restrict thumbnail processing to trusted inputs. Run the processing service with minimal privileges and isolate it from sensitive systems until a maintained fixed release is available.
