description

Poppler 0.42.0 through 26.10.0 is affected by a stack-based buffer overflow during Revision 6 decryption of AESV3/R6-encrypted PDFs. An attacker who can control the password provided when a Poppler-using application opens such a document may crash the application or corrupt its memory.

mitigation

Until a corrected Poppler release is identified, disable or reject AESV3/R6-encrypted PDF processing where possible. Do not accept attacker-controlled PDF passwords, and isolate Poppler-based document handling in a sandboxed process.
