description

esaml versions from 0.1.0 onward can permanently consume Erlang atom-table entries while handling unauthenticated SAML responses. An attacker able to send requests to assertion-consumer or single-logout endpoints may exhaust this resource and cause the Erlang node to stop before signature verification occurs.

mitigation

Update arekinath/esaml, handnot2/esaml, esaml, or dropbox/esaml to the advisory-designated fixed release, *. Until updated, restrict access to SAML assertion-consumer and single-logout endpoints with network or gateway controls.

outcome

Contextual check: a technique exists and was validated, but no deterministic check could cover this one.
