description

ModSecurity versions 3.0.0 through 3.0.16 can evaluate an uploaded multipart filename differently from the backend application. An attacker may evade filename-based WAF policy when the backend honors RFC 2231 filename* values and uses the resulting name for security-relevant processing; PHP's native multipart parser is not affected by this mismatch.

mitigation

Upgrade ModSecurity to version 3.0.17 or later. Until the upgrade is complete, limit multipart uploads and enforce filename validation in the backend application.
