description

@simple-git/argv-parser before 2.0.1 does not classify the VISUAL environment variable as an unsafe editor setting. An attacker may cause Git to launch an attacker-selected editor if an application forwards attacker-controlled environment values to Git, performs an operation that opens an editor, and no higher-priority editor configuration overrides VISUAL.

mitigation

Upgrade @simple-git/argv-parser to version 2.0.1 or later. Until upgraded, do not forward untrusted environment variables to Git; explicitly remove VISUAL and set a trusted editor configuration.

fixed in 2.0.1
