CVE-2026-102271
validatedZero produced an exploit or a check.GHSA-p4g4-x82p-q773 ↗EUVD-2026-88539 ↗
description
PyJWT versions 2.4.0 through 2.13.0 can treat DER-encoded asymmetric public-key material as an HMAC verification secret. An attacker with the public key may create accepted tokens if the application permits both HS* and asymmetric algorithms for the same DER byte key. PyJWK and PyJWKClient users are not affected by this condition.
mitigation
Upgrade PyJWT to version 2.14.0 or later. Restrict each verification path to its intended algorithm family and do not use asymmetric public-key bytes as HMAC secrets.
fixed in 2.14.0
outcome
Mechanism verified: the exploit fired on the vulnerable build and stayed silent on the patched one, but the server it ran against was ours, so no check ships for it.
