description

tari_validator_node validators process submitted transactions through an RPC path that decodes them before applying the transaction-size limit. An unauthenticated peer able to reach this RPC service can cause disproportionate memory consumption and potentially terminate the validator by submitting concurrent requests.

mitigation

Restrict submit_transaction RPC access to trusted peers and reduce max_simultaneous_sessions to limit concurrent decoding. Monitor validator memory usage and apply an upstream release containing a decode-time size or element-count limit when one is published.

outcome

Contextual: an exploit technique exists, but no deterministic check could cover this one.
