description

midnight-ledger transaction handling can interpret aliased serialized map entries inconsistently between validation and application. An attacker may mint unshielded tokens other than NIGHT without spending a corresponding input, provided a target non-NIGHT unshielded token type exists; normal builds are affected without special runtime configuration.

mitigation

Upgrade the affected midnight-ledger package to version 8.1.2. Until upgraded, restrict exposure to untrusted transaction submission where operationally possible.

fixed in 8.1.2

outcome

Contextual: an exploit technique exists, but no deterministic check could cover this one.
