description

simple-git versions 3.15.0 through 4.0.0 do not block a Git trailer configuration form that can invoke a shell command. An attacker may run commands with the Node.js process identity if the application forwards attacker-controlled values into SimpleGitOptions.config or inline Git configuration arguments and Git processes the configured trailer.

mitigation

Upgrade simple-git to version 4.0.1 or later. Until upgraded, do not pass untrusted input into SimpleGitOptions.config or inline -c Git configuration arguments.

fixed in 4.0.1

outcome

Mechanism verified: the exploit fired on the vulnerable build and stayed silent on the patched one, but the server it ran against was ours, so no check ships for it.
